Julius Caesar Persuasive Essay
Dear fellow plebeians, and all who apply, my recent death is but a tragic warning. I write to you in hopes you will listen. As you are all aware, the belligerent, but yet ‘honorable’ murderers who took my life include a few whom I could recently claim to be my friends; Brutus, Casca, and Cassius. From this brutal occasion I hereby write this letter to tell you not to trust easily, because actions speak much louder than words, and in my case the names mentioned above proved to me through their actions that they had negative and non-friendly intentions all along.
Rome is a powerful and beautiful stretch of land that I myself do cherish. Brutus and his followers felt I had ambitious plans for Rome and mostly for myself. If I were in their shoes, I could also envision such opinions. Just as Brutus claims, “Not that I lov'd Caesar less, but that I lov'd Rome more.” III. II, it explains that they took action, and my life, in defense of Rome and for you. To make such a decision for Rome is noble, and honorable.
From this experience I acquired a lot of knowledge about friendship and how a friend should be. But also, keep this in mind; “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.” In my case, my friends were my enemies. They were my closest of friends and that’s what made my execution so easy and unbelievable. As you all are aware I left Rome with a heaping amount in my will. Brutus’ lips did speak my name in a negative manner but you should know I loved nothing but Rome and all of it’s plebeians. I can now say Brutus is not a good, loyal, friend. “There was a Brutus once that would have brook'd
the eternal devil to keep his state in Rome, as easily as a king.” I.II.95 As Cassius says, Brutus is noble, but this also shows how ambitious Brutus is. A good friend, companion, or acquaintance is one that will go out their way to do something for you, one who truly, deeply, cares. Mark Antony is a noble man, and friend. As Mark Antony stated at the realization of my death, “Live a thousand years, I shall not find myself so apt to die.” III.II.103 proves how loyal of a friend he is, not only does his sympathy and emotion flare, but he, he is a good friend.
Take what I tell you, and apply it to your lives. My death was tragic but holds a moral. I hope this bears at least some reaction in your lives. Be careful who you choose to be in your life, and careful with the ones you don’t.
What does the word "belligerent" mean? (HA! belli- war)
ReplyDeleteI really liked the flow of your into paragraph.
The words worked well together and came off really strong.
Personally I didn't like that you used the names, just because your suppose to be Caesar and it sounded like tattle-tail kind of thing. That's just me, I guess it is good to refrence who your talking about.
